Working with UNESCO

... As an individual

If you would like to help UNESCO achieve its aims, the first step is to see what opportunities are available for career development by consulting the overview of work opportunities in the Organization.

Once you have chosen the type of post at UNESCO in which you are interested, you can access further information to determine if you have the right employment profile, to find out how to apply, and to learn about the recruitment process and the corresponding post status.

The list of vacancies will tell you which posts are currently open for recruitment through the Internet.

... As an organization

If you belong to an institution such as a school, university or NGO which would like to cooperate with UNESCO, consult the External Relations and Cooperation section on this website.

AS A TRANSLATOR OR INTERPRETER
Depending on your skills and experience, you can join either the permanent staff of UNESCO translators and interpreters or the pool of freelance translators.

There are professional language careers at UNESCO for translators, revisers and interpreters.

As a pivot of multicultural harmony within the Organization, you will ensure communication among government representatives to UNESCO.

Although French and English are UNESCO’s two working languages, the Organization also uses Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish as its official languages.

For all language posts, your mother tongue or principal language must be one of the official languages and you should have excellent knowledge of the culture and literature of that language. You will also need an excellent knowledge of one of the working languages, and it is highly desirable to know at least one of the other official languages of UNESCO.

Depending on your skills and level of experience, you may join
either UNESCO’s core staff of translators and interpreters
or the pool of freelance translators.
